300 reasons I would vote for used gym socks if it would keep John McCain out of office

Reason #101

From The Curvature comes a great analysis of Sarah Palin’s involvement in charging rape victims in Wasilla for their own rape investigations, and her subsequent lying about that involvement:

You’ve probably read just about everywhere by now that while Sarah Palin was mayor of Wasilla, the city billed rape victims the $1200 fee for their rape kits. Of course, Palin has tried to sidestep the question and insinuate that she had nothing, nothing at all, to do with this mess. This was clearly bullshit from day one, since the mayor of such a small town (my town is tiny and still has 2,500 more people in it than Wasilla) really has no excuse for not knowing what the fuck is going on in it.

(emphasis mine)

As I’ve noted before, Wasilla is the same size as Bumpass, Virginia. One would assume that the mayor of such a tiny town would know what was going on there.

Considering that fact, it was already clear that Sarah Palin was lying about her involvement in charging rape victims for their rape kits (in case you’ve never heard of them, a rape kit is a kit used to collect evidence for prosecution after a sexual assault), but now we have proof. There is now a paper trail proving that Sarah Palin actively signed off on the switch from having the town cover rape investigations to the new policy of charging victims, and her claims to the contrary are outright lies.

Unfortunately, I don’t think a lot of men in politics understand what a big deal this could be for women voters (yep, even evangelical women).  I am afraid men who understand that John McCain=FAIL will miss an opportunity on this issue, because they don’t understand how visceral women’s feelings about sexual violence are.  This decision by Sarah Palin speaks to a lack of empathy on her part–it takes away from her false image as a woman “just like us,” and shows her to be quite a bit nastier than most women would be.  Further, the fact that she is lying about her involvement in this decision speaks even more to the fact that she and John McCain are liars. I hope people don’t stop talking about this.
